Are All Patients Treated in the Same Way?

The short answer: absolutely not!
One of the most common surprises in the clinic is this: People expect every patient to be treated in exactly the same way. But bodies aren’t the same. Histories aren’t the same. Pain patterns, nervous systems, mobility levels, and comfort needs aren’t the same, we are all individuals.
So no, we don’t treat everyone the same. We follow the McTimoney protocol, working from top to toe, but how we apply it is completely individual.
Real Examples From the Clinic This Month
Here’s what personalised care actually looks like.
1. The client who couldn’t lie down at all
We treated them seated, working gently down the spine, ribs, and pelvis. We finished with the feet and arms, mixing in soft tissue work and simple seated exercises.
2. The client who could only lie down at an angle
They couldn’t lie on their tummy, so we didn’t ask them to. We supported them on their back at an angle, treated what we could there, and then continued their spinal work sitting up.
3. The client who couldn’t sit due to pain
Standing treatment? Absolutely fine. We adapted the whole session so they could stay upright and still receive a full, effective treatment.
4. The client who was too nervous to begin
Before we even talked about symptoms, we did an orientation exercise.
These aren’t exceptions; this is normal. This is what person‑centred care looks like.
This Applies to Yoga Classes Too
The same philosophy runs through your yoga classes.
Some people use cushions, blocks, or bolsters. Some stay standing. Some move slowly. Some rest more. Some explore deeper movement.
Everyone is welcome. Everyone is supported. Everyone is met exactly where they are.
Why We Adapt Everything
Your body and nervous system work together. If you’re in pain, anxious, stiff, overwhelmed, or unsure, your nervous system becomes more protective.
That’s why we adapt:
positions
pace
pressure
breath
environment
communication
expectations
Our job is to help your body feel safe, because safety is what allows movement, healing, and confidence to return.
Your Comfort Comes First
With our knowledge of the body, movement, and the nervous system, we make sure you feel comfortable, supported, and understood.
There is no “right” way to receive treatment. There is only your way, and we work with that.
